I think there is a common misconception concerning wellness: that it has to be all about you. While I obviously agree with that statement to a certain extent, I think that when you subject the center of your wellness goals to yourself, you lose sight of the big picture.

I am a firm believer in Christ, and I love God. I wholeheartedly believe that my desire to dive deeper into my faith has exponentially grown the goodness within my life, and tremendously aided in my wellness journey. Having a firm belief in my faith constantly pushes me to be better. My goals aren’t my own anymore, and I feel my calling.

As I’ve written in past pieces on this website, I’m an aspiring healthcare professional, and I cannot wait for the privilege to serve my patients in the future, aiding them regardless of any external circumstances. My wellness journey allows me to be the best version of myself as I pursue this goal for the future. Additionally, my faith heavily aids in aligning my values with those God calls us to have. I am so connected with my faith, that it has only driven my passion for healthcare. I feel God’s call for me to serve others through healthcare.

What does this have to do with wellness? I can only pursue my goals to the best of my ability if I’m in a place to give my full capability. Without wellness, I wouldn’t be the version of myself who can give fully to my future patients, my loved ones, and my purpose. Wellness isn't just about physical health or mental clarity—it's about aligning my mind, body, and spirit so I can show up fully in every aspect of my life.

For me, faith and wellness go hand in hand. My faith provides a deeper sense of meaning to my wellness journey. It keeps me grounded, gives me strength when I feel weak, and reminds me that my purpose extends beyond myself. I’m no longer aimlessly seeking a healthier way of living for the sake of it, I am being called on by a greater purpose. My wellness isn’t just about feeling good or looking a certain way; it’s about being able to live out my calling and serve others as God intended.

When my goals are centered on something greater than myself, I feel more driven and at peace. I believe wellness starts with caring for ourselves so that we can care for others, and for me, that care is a reflection of my faith. Through wellness, I am preparing myself for the purpose God has laid before me, and through faith, I find the motivation and strength to pursue it with all my heart.

So, if you find yourself stuck in a wellness routine that feels empty, consider inviting faith into the picture. Let your goals be fueled by something greater than just your own desires. In doing so, you may find a deeper sense of purpose and fulfillment in both your wellness journey and your life.
