It's easy to forget the real meaning of Thanksgiving. Gratitude. The Thanksgiving season is often synonymous with celebration, connection, and (let’s be honest) indulging in all the delicious food. But beyond the pumpkin pie and family gatherings, it’s a time to embrace gratitude and wellness in ways that can positively shape our mind, body, and spirit. This season, and going into the new year, let’s focus on creating moments that leave us feeling not just thankful, but also balanced and recharged. Here’s how you can make the most of Thanksgiving with intention and wellness in mind.

1. Start with Gratitude

Gratitude is the foundation of Thanksgiving, but it’s also a cornerstone of wellness. When we focus on what we’re grateful for, we naturally shift our mindset toward positivity and abundance.

  • Morning Gratitude Practice: Begin each day with three things you’re thankful for—big or small. It’s a quick way to center yourself and set a positive tone.

  • Express Appreciation: Write a note, text, or simply tell someone why you’re grateful for them. Our genuine connections with others boost our emotional wellness.

  • Reflect on Growth: Use the Reflection Sheet or Wellness Journal (self-plug :)) to think about how far you’ve come this year. Even the tough moments we've grown from offer something to be thankful for.

2. Practice Mindful Eating

Thanksgiving dinner doesn’t have to derail your wellness journey. The key is to enjoy everything you love while staying mindful.

  • Savor Every Bite: Slow down and really taste your favorite dishes. Eating mindfully helps you enjoy the experience more.

  • Balance Your Plate: Load up on colorful veggies and lean proteins, and save space for the foods you truly love (hello, mashed potatoes!!!).

  • Hydrate Often: Keep some water nearby to stay energized and aid digestion.

P.S. Don’t stress about indulging—wellness is about balance, not restriction.

3. Keep Moving in Ways You Enjoy

Thanksgiving isn’t just about sitting at the table. Incorporate movement into your day to feel energized and balanced.

  • Take a Walk: A post-meal stroll is a great way to connect with loved ones and boost digestion.

  • Stretch It Out: A few minutes of yoga or gentle stretching can help you stay grounded amid the holiday hustle.

  • Active Traditions: Whether it’s a family football game or a morning workout, find fun ways to move together. If you don't have any, this year can be a great start!

4. Prioritize Rest and Reflection

Holidays can be hectic, but taking time to rest is just as important as staying active.

  • Schedule Downtime: Block out a little time for yourself each day, even if it’s just 10 minutes.

  • Practice Deep Breathing: A few deep breaths can instantly calm your mind and bring you back to the present.

  • Reflect on Your Season: Journal about what this season has taught you about gratitude, growth, and balance.

5. Spread Kindness and Connection

Thanksgiving is about more than food; it’s about connection. Nurture your relationships and spread kindness wherever you can.

  • Check-In: Reach out to a friend or family member you haven’t spoken to in a while.

  • Share What You’re Grateful For: Take a moment at the table to express gratitude out loud—it’s a simple way to deepen connections.

  • Give Back: Whether it’s volunteering or simply helping with the dishes, acts of service are a beautiful way to embody gratitude.

Embracing Wellness This Thanksgiving

The Thanksgiving season is a reminder to pause, reflect, and realign. By focusing on gratitude and making small, intentional choices for your well-being, you can embrace the holiday with a sense of balance and fulfillment. Wishing you a Thanksgiving filled with gratitude, connection, and wellness.

Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃 - Tasha
